What is statistics?

This term we have been learning about statistics. First we had a discussion as a class to see how much we remembered (we didn't remember much). Then we watched a video and continued to have some more conversations. We created our own graffiti page about the key words and pictures that stood out to us individually. Here are some of our creations.
We learnt that statistics is the study of data: how to collect, analyze, summarise and present it. Statistics can include mean, median, mode, minimum value, maximum value, range, and standard deviation. What do you know about statistics?

School Census

Last Tuesday our class took part in the nation wide census at schools initiative involving over 775 schools from not only Aotearoa but also Australia, the Cook Islands the United Kingdom, Canada, the US, Japan and South Africa.

This year, the questions asked were to investigate Kiwi kids thoughts about issues as wide-ranging as climate change, the amount of time they spend on digital devices, and how they handle interpersonal issues. The data is collected sorted and then put into graphs for us all to check out later in July!
