In the school holidays before we visited our Aunty and uncle down in Opotiki, Whakatane. We also went down there to see our baby cousin Jiosese ( How to say it - josese). the first few week we went fishing alot and I always said to my "Don't go into the water", but somehow I ended up going back to the house wet. After the first week all my cousins left, only me and my Grandmother stayed another week. after the day they left my aunty went to do some gardening and she gave me some little seedlings like the ones from countdown to plant. Then the next day we went fishing early in the morning around 8 or 9 I think with my uncle. It was a bit chilly out so my aunty stayed with Jiosese until 10 then they came out to the beach. They live in a holiday home and it is also by the beach so there is a gate and when you open it you just have to follow the path and you are a the beach it is less then a minute walk. Then when they came down to the beach my grandmother came back from her walk on the beach. Whenever we go fishing my uncle brings 2 fishing rod and when my Grandmother got back, one of the fishing poles got tugged so  she went to reel it in, and when she was reeling in the fishing line the other line got tugged so the I ran to it and reeled it in and we both caught a fish.

Today in TWP we did a book review activity. We had to Write 3 parts in the book we liked and and a summary of the book with your favorite part.Then we had to write who we would recommend this book to and add a photo of what the cover of our book looks like.

Maraia, Vili Sione & Jacob - The Coconut Shell

As you know our inquiry topic has been "Amazing Plants!" We started with New Zealand Native plants and moved to plants of the Pacific. As a learning hub we all looked at the coconut tree together as it has importance to all of our Pacific nations. Last time we looked at Achilles' group and the coconut meat/flesh . Maraia - tūpou - Māori Pronouns

 Ngā kare ā-roto me ngā āhau - Feelings and states No. 2  

Today for Māori we are learning about Tūpou Māori - Māori pronouns. This was a bit hard because I do not know a lot about Māori or how to speak it. A new word I learnt was "Takeo". It means I am bored. 

Can you use these pronouns to speak Te Reo Māori. 

International Women's Day - Gender Ground Rules Activity 4 by Sione and Maraia

Today I did gender ground rules for international women's day. It took me pretty long because I had to restart because I messed up. The activity I did was you had to create a little comic strip of some one overcoming gender stereotypes. Something that was tricky in this activity was doing it. Today on the 29th of March I did my 4th International Women's Day Activity I choose a Writing Task Card I thought it wasn't going to take long but it took like 2 hours because I kept on getting distracted. For the activity I had to brainstorm types of gender stereotypes that I have noticed, and choose one that is important to me. Then I had to create my own comic that has a scenario where a someone overcomes a gender stereotype. Question : What is the most weirdest gender stereotype you have ever heard.  In TWP 4 we've been learning and practicing how to make art on our devices. 

The steps were easy to follow and our teacher demonstrated to us first.

Step 1: Find an image to trace. The more simple the better. We choose a simple cartoon dog like this one.

Step 2: Find out whether to use the Curve or Polyline tool to begin tracing. This is important to know the rule for this is:

If there are curved edges, then for that section of the image, use curve. 

If there are sharp edges, use polyline for the section

Step 3: Check if you can use any shapes to create part of the image. - For our dog it was mostly lots of different sized circles. This made colouring so much easier.

Step 4: Start tracing the image. Use your different lines or shapes to colour over your picture. Remember to zoom in and not to move your picture until you're finished.

Ash Wednesday 2021 - Lockdown Level 3

Today is Ash Wednesday. Ash Wednesday is the time from when we move from Ordinary time. Bishop Patrick Dunn says ‘we are entering the wonderful, joyful time of Lent. The sacred 40 days the church allows us to prepare for Easter.’ We are reminded that we live our faith through: Prayer, Fasting, Almsgiving. Lent is a time to reflect on where we come from and where we are being called to be.

   

Because it is currently L3 Lockdown here in Auckland we had our mass online.

Rawiri Waititi ejected from Parliament for not wearing a tie - News Article

 In this article written by RNZ is about Rawiri Waititi getting ejected from the Parliament because he was wearing a Maori taonga around his neck and not a proper business tie. The main people in this article are Rawiri Waititi and Trevor Mallard. Rawiri Waititi is a man that is a co-leader from the Maori Party. Rawiri and Trevor also argued about the disagreements between wearing different cultural ties. 

The key event from this article is about Rawiri Waititi. Last year in 2020 some people in the Parliament agreed that there should not be any cultural ties in the debating chamber, and some disagreed. This event took place in Wellington at the Beehive, in the New Zealand Parliament Building. This event took place on January 1st 2021. 

In this news article Rawiri Waititi was kicked out of the Parliament and to never be seen in the debating chamber again. Rawiri said "Our people have worn these types of ties for generations, thousands of years. And it's time that Parliament, which was consented by my ancestors through Te Tiriti o Waitangi, recognised our right and freedom to express our own cultural identity, in a place that's supposed to be a place for democracy," 

Trevor Mallard and Rawiri Waititi argued in the debating chamber. This event took place because the Parliament wanted to discuss new laws around New Zealand. The day before the meeting a person asked Rawiri “What tie are you going to wear tomorrow?” Rawiri replied “You’ll have to wait until tomorrow.” 

In my own opinion I think that they should allow wearing any ties, like in the meeting there was a Mexican guy whose name is Ricardo Menendez and he said

“I have worn this tie in a lot of meetings and I have never been told to take it off and wear a business tie”. At that moment I straight away thought that Speaker Trevor Mallard was kind of being racist, about Rawiri Waititi having to wear a Maori tie around his neck. In my mind I thought he was being kind of racist because Rawiri Waititi was wearing a pounamu around his neck, but according to the Parliament laws you have to wear a business tie. That’s why they should allow wearing any ties.
