Horoia ō niho - Clean your teeth!

Here at St Pius X we practice good oral hygiene by making sure we brush our teeth after lunch.
Ētehi wā hoki tino wareware koe ki te taitai i ō niho. Sometimes you completely forget to brush your teeth, but it is important to make it part of your everyday routine.
It is important to brush your teeth because it keeps your teeth and gums healthy, by removing plaque effectively every day!

We enjoy brushing our teeth because it keeps our smiles looking beautiful! We have some tips for you on how to brush your teeth:

  • Brush at least twice daily - at night, before going to sleep and in the morning, after breakfast.
  • Use a pea-sized amount of fluoride toothpaste.
  • Use a soft-bristled toothbrush.
  • Hold your toothbrush at a 45° angle to your gums.
  • Brush all tooth surfaces gently and thoroughly by moving your brush back and forth in short tooth-wide strokes.

Soul Friends and remembering Christchurch

On Friday the 22nd of March our school had a very special morning mass with our community. It was special for two reasons. We had gathered with our community to thank God for his blessings and to offer up our Soul Friends for his guidance.

We also took the time to remember the Muslim Community in Christchurch and around the world. Especially the families who lost a loved one and those who are fighting for their lives in the hospital. We pray for peace and justice in our world.

Soul Friends is a tradition that was brought to us, St. Pius X Catholic School by the Holy Faith Sisters when they first arrived here in the 1950s. It is an Irish Catholic practice. People choose someone wise or someone who is a good role model of faith, to be their soul friend. This friendship is about supporting and sharing their faith journey.

Making our promises to our soul friends.
Sharing morning tea with our soul friends.

Jireh's Little Big Speech

            Little Big Speech

I have a dream that one day my family will finally come back
to TOGETHER because when I am at home I always feel like a
person who has no one but we will all have Joy because God is a
king to all of us,we all must have FAITH, HOPE ,LOVE , CARE
for all.

I have a dream that one day my school would always have some
LOVE AND FAITH for other people. When I look at people I see
them hurting each other and we need to change that in life because
God made us to be a family all TOGETHER in this world of life.

I have a dream that one day my community will have a new life in
this world so we can all be a saint and live with God on the light side
. I want my community to have new health and to have some LOVE
, HOPE and PROTECTION in the people who are on the devils side so
they could be with us in heaven.

I have a dream that one day my country can live like New Zealand
because I want my country and all the other island places to have a
good life like all of us. Lastly for my country I want them to have
LOVE, PATIENCE, FAITH and PROTECTION with us all in life.

I have a dream that one day the world will have some FAITH
some LOVE some HOPE in with people because we are made
out of  a Saint ,We all have to have PROTECTION over people
because we are a family.

Little Big Speech - By Francis

Little Big Speech

I have a dream to tell god please help my family especially my mother. So she can have a confident spirit to be able to do well in her new job at the pharmacy.

I have dream that one day my school will show kindness and respect to one another.

I have dream that one day my community grows into a safe, loving place

I have dream that one day my country has honour, and it’s people will treat other people with kindness and be helpful

I have dream that one day the world would stop all murders and crimes and instead stop and pray to God to help us so our world be a peaceful.

I have a dream that one day when I grow up that I can be a great role model for kids, because it’s okay to be different because you yourself are a great person.
By Francis

How this inspired me was when I started my learning on Martin Luther king. Because what he did was amazing he stood up for black people along with the First lady of civil rights Rosa Parks. I am a black person and if Martin Luther king and Rosa Parks did not stand up for us black people we would not have the nice houses, nice clothes, nice schools and mostly a nice world.

Friday's Assembly

Last Friday was a very special assembly for us in Room 5. We had some special students receive awards awarded by our principal, Mr Coakley. The certificates were awarded with four main criteria in mind:

1. Never Giving up
2. Giving Extra Effort
3. Trying My Best
4. A Caring Person

Here are the four students who received their certificates.
The second reason assembly was special to us was because it was our classes turn to share some work that we'd been working on in our class. We each created a Little Big Speech inspired by Martin Luther King Jr's very own I have a Dream speech. We read a book as a class to learn about how courageous Martin was and took note of some of his BIG words he used to help him in his mission for equality! Some of these words were Love, Faith, Hope which are also part of our school motto. Keep an eye on our blog to see some of speeches this week!

Tuhi Mai, Tuhi Atu

Tuhi Mai, Tuhi Atu

We are very excited to shortly begin our new class blogging programme and hope to build our confidence and our understanding of Learn Create Share over the year.

We are ready as a class to connect, collaborate, support our cybersmart learning, and utilise our classroom blog as a powerful tool with you and hope that you will find it engaging and inspiring through reading and writing the comments we make and those you leave behind on our class (and in time) individual blogs.

By using Tuhi Mai, Tuhi Atu we will harness our understanding of Learn, Create, Share and we are confident that with an authentic audience who will regularly comment, the learning we are sharing will develop too.

Welcome to our Tuhi Mai, Tuhi Atu team...we are so excited to get to know you and share our learning.  We hope that we can create new ideas to support our connections and collaborations together.

Cyber Smart

Each Monday the children of Room 5 at St Pius X Catholic School in Auckland learn the in’s and outs of how to be cyber smart.

There are many ways to be cyber-smart in order to keep ourselves safe while working online. As a class we discuss and practice these safe behaviors everyday to ensure that we can be Smart Learners.
