International Women’s Day 8th March 2021
On the 8th of March was International Women’s Day. In our class we did an activity to challenge the stereotypes and bias of both male and female roles within our society. We first had to get into same gender groups. We then wrote down the positives and challenges of the opposite gender. The boys wrote about the positives and challenges for females and the girls wrote about the positives and challenges of being male
After we came up with some ideas in our group we then joined our groups with the opposite gender. Something we noticed was that the two lists were very different. Women had more challenges. For example women had lots of challenges around the expectations of raising and looking after the family. On the other hand, males had more positives. For example men can play and get paid professionally for sport, get to sleep in and are fathers.
We also said that a challenge for a male is that they have to provide for the family and have to always be brave.
Something we learnt from this is that males and females aren't considered equal in lots of aspects of life.
Here is our activity we did.
Can you add any more sterotypes to this?
