Māori myths and legends - Kahukura, the legend of the rainbow and Atua of war

In our space we have named our reading groups after Māori Atua. We have chosen Atua who are lesser known but still have interesting stories. One of the Atua we have chosen is Kahukura God of Rainbows and War.

We have done some research and recreated our own interpretation. Have a read of some of our retold myths and legends by Xavier, Taniela and Sione.

We have loved reading your retells of the legend of Kahukura. In our class we love to read and explore Maori Legends so it was cool for us to learn a new one that we haven't heard before! We love that your rainbow backgrounds link to the legend also. Ka pai tamariki ma!

  2. Kai Ora,
My name is Marcella from Owairaka District School.
In room 8 we are also learning about myths and legends. We have been looking at one called Tarakura of the Ranitaki plains. Were the main character, iratumoana has to fight the taniwha Tarakura. I love how you all did the same myth but in different ways. Next time you could tell us why you chose this myth to retell. What are the other reading groups called?
Over all, GREAT job to Sione,Taniela and Xavier!
Hope to see more great work on your class blog!
    Bye!
